Gleneagle Hospital Kuala Lumpur (GHKL) is one the leading private hospital in Malaysia’s metropolitan capital. The new hospital block, sitting beside the existing block with an interconnecting link bridge, is the first GBI CVA Gold rated hospital building in Malaysia. It is a 10-storey hospital block, consisting of one floor retails, two floors wards, three floors medical facilities, three floors specialist clinics and one floor management and administrative offices. Under the building is the four and half storey below grade carpark floors that managed by separate business entity with adequate reserved carparks for the hospital while the remaining is for future development surrounding the building. The building has been designed with due consideration to environmental sustainability and life cycle, the sustainable design implementation includes: 1. An outperforming thermal performing building envelope with an OTTV of less than 20W/m2 , 60% below the requirement specified by MS1525. 2. Motion-responsive lighting system covering all the internal corridors 3. Daylight harvesting system employing presence sensor to cover all perimeter rooms with windows except wards. 4. Upgrading building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) with an aggregated installed capacity of 20kWp to complement at least 0.6% of the total building energy use 5. An overall Building Energy Intensity (BEI) of less than 175kWh/m2 /year, 6. Demand-controlled ventilation system using CO2 sensor is provided for all AHUs. 7. Only low VOC and non-urea formaldehyde materials complying with Green Label Standards locally or internationally are allowed to be used in the building. 8. No smoking policy within building and building compound. 9. Excellent built quality with an overall CIDB Quality Assessment System in Construction (QLASSIC) score of 75%. 10. Pressure independent balancing control valve (PIBCV) coupled with sophisticated control system to achieve the highly energy efficient chilled water plant 11. Highly energy efficient electronically-commutated (EC) plug fans for all AHUs. 12. Water efficient fittings with WELS rating resulting in 50% less water use from the fittings. 13. Non-chemical water treatment system for cooling tower to eliminate convention use of polluting chemicals, minimize water consumption and optimize thermal efficiency and in turn reduce energy use. 14. Carparking guidance system to assist occupant in locating empty parking bays with less hassle and in turn reducing tailpipe gas emission. 15. Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) system to shield against viruses, bacteria mould, spores, fungus etc. that can grow rampantly inside the damp and dark HVAC systems and get distributed all over the building through the air-conditioning system.
