Situated in Shah Alam, Selangor PKNS Sales Gallery is a single storey steel structure which operates to exhibit PKNS development projects. This sales gallery project exemplifies sustainability and efficiency, setting benchmark in green building design. It is strategically located in the city centre where access for public transportation and other facilities are widely available including retails which is located adjacent to the gallery. The gallery is also surrounded with greenery elements where native plants and herb species are used to enhance the overall environment creating nature ambience. Tree cabinet is one of the exceptional features of the sales gallery inspired by the weaving concept of planting to enhance simplicity and maximize impact in limited spaces involving strategic design and thoughtful selection of plant species. Indigenous and native species selected not only for their adaptability to local conditions but also for their ecological benefits in supporting local wildlife and enhancing biodiversity. 60 biodiverse plant species are selected celebrating PKNS 60th anniversary and years of excellence. The gallery is oriented with the front facing north and the rear south, the gallery minimizes direct sunlight exposure, reducing heat gain and optimizing energy performance. The building features a valley roof that shades the east side, further decreasing the need for artificial cooling. To enhance thermal comfort, rockwool insulation is installed on the metal deck roof, effectively mitigating solar heat transfer. Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) air conditioning system equipped with smart control technology is used to maintain optimal temperatures with minimal energy consumption. A total of 173 solar panels have been installed on the roof, approximately contributing to 50% of the total electricity consumption of the building. Additionally, all lighting within the gallery will be LED, known for its energy efficiency and longevity, contributing to reduced energy usage and lower cooling costs. Lux and motion sensors were integrated to maintain optimal lighting conditions and improve operational efficiency. Provision of electrical sub-metering allows monitoring of the energy consumption and identifying over-consumption. Additionally, the sales gallery will feature Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations located near the entrance, underscoring a commitment to supporting sustainable transportation options Water conservation is a key focus, with highly efficient fittings certified by WELS or WELPS ensuring reduced potable water consumption. The project will also incorporate water sub-metering, allowing for detailed monitoring and management of water use to promote responsible consumption. Indoor environmental quality is addressed through the use of low VOC paints and adhesives, ensuring a healthier atmosphere for visitors, while fresh air design adheres to ASHRAE standards to maintain superior air quality. Sustainable site management practices are integral to the project, including effective waste management and the use of recycled and regional materials. This approach not only minimizes environmental impact but also supports local economies. The project aims to comply with QLASSIC standards, ensuring high-quality construction practices and sustainability. As Shah Alam Sentral is moving towards low carbon city, this innovative and environmentally conscious approach not only enhances the gallery's performance but also aligns with the carbon reduction strategy plan.
