This 1 storey Starbucks drive-thru restaurant situated at the commercial lot of Eco Horizon development which targeted for GBI certified rating. The building facade is designed with numerous full heights glazing to invite day lighting into the internal building as well as full vision right through the windows. Therefore, building façade materials were selected cautiously to achieve better thermal performance of the building. Roof insulation was applied on the roofing system to prevent the heat transfer into the building while the bright color coating on the metal roof helps to reflect the sunlight. A good performance glazing and well thermal performance concrete block wall to be used to reduce the heat transfer to internal spaces. Roof overhang are installed on top of most of the wide glazing to act as efficient sun shading device. Other than passive design, some other approach also implemented such as the used of LED lights for all the lighting and the introduced of sub-metering to monitoring the energy usage. Water efficient fittings are used to reduce the water usage and water sub-metering is installed for leak detection. All this design features have contributed to build a better energy and water performance building. Other than the effort to achieve energy and water efficiency for the building, this project also taking into consideration on the design to achieve better indoor environment quality of the building such as air quality, thermal comfort, lighting, visual & acoustic comfort to ensure the comfort and well-being of the occupants. During construction period, this project practice sustainable site planning & management, implement construction waste management and responsible in choosing the building materials & resources to reduce impact and pollution activities to the environments. Starbucks, the operator of this building, is a company that has implementing green building strategies in their stores which align with Eco Horizon Sdn Bhd, the owner of this building, to have the same goal in building a green and sustainable building.
