The Tzu Chi Foundation Along the bustling main road of Kepong is the KL Tzu-Chi Jing Si Hall, an iconic and magnificent building designed and built by the Tzu Chi Foundation-Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Branch, an International non-profit Humanitarian Non- Governmental Organization. This organization founded in 1966 in Taiwan, upholds the belief in humanitarian action which transcends race, religion, borders and nationalities. The past 54 years have seen the NGO dedicated towards eight major missions; Charity, Medicine, Education, Humanistic Culture, Environmental Protection, International Relief Operations, Bone-Marrow Donation and Community Volunteers. Today, the foundation is established in 63 countries across the world with 11 million global members and around 3 million members in Malaysia. Through these establishments, we have provided humanitarian emergency efforts and relief aids to 124 countries in the last 54 years alleviating sufferings in all corners of the world. Jing Si Hall The Jing Si Hall is a multi-purpose building with a built-up area of 32,369 m2 (exc. carpark) on a 4.75 acres land. It is the home for all Tzu Chi volunteers to enhance their spiritual and personal cultivation while providing a training ground to engage for humanitarian work. Amongst its many features, it houses the Da Ai Kindergarten, which emphasizes on both academic excellence and moral character building to children and the Tzu Chi Continuing Education Center which offers classes on cooking, yoga, calligraphy and languages to the local community to nurture their living skills. The Tzu Chi Bookshop and Café, which provides a cosy environment, often draws students from the neighborhood to do their study and reading over a cup of their favorite drink. Motivational talks by distinguished speakers from various fields are held regularly here to allow people within the community to enhance their personal life. The Jing Si Hall also serves as a community center for the public. Its peaceful and tranquil ambience provides a focal point for leisure and enhancement of knowledge and personal development. Furthermore, the building can be adapted to serve as a disaster relief or operations center for planning and coordination of relief work during natural disasters. Environmental Friendly Building Since Environmental Protection is one of Tzu Chi Foundation’s Eight Missions, the Jing Si Hall, was designed to comply with the GBI Gold accreditation requirements. With a plot ratio of less than 2 and only one basement carpark, the Jing Si Hall was designed to reduce carbon footprint in mind. The entire building adopts a natural lighting and cross ventilation design towards a healthier and sustainable environment. Many recyclable architectural materials were adopted and designed for used on the building. The M&E services and equipment are designed to comply with GBI Gold requirements. Solar Photovoltaic panels are installed at the roof top to minimize the usage of electricity. Rainwater harvesting and sewerage filtering systems are also installed to reduce the usage of piped water. Solar-powered street lights and interlocking pavers are used in the open areas to facilitate the penetration of rainwater into the soil. The surrounding compound of the building has plenty of greenery, including a wetland that organically recycles greywater.
