The new Booking.com Malaysia office is located at KL Eco City, Mercu 2, which is a GBI Gold certified office building that strategically located at a neighborhood with plenty of basic amenities and public transportation hub. Glazed façade of the office is of heat-insulating double-glazing unit type, which reduces external heat gain significantly. The office's air conditioning system is a centralized type with variable air volume (VAV) box to provide better thermal comfort and energy efficiency. Designed lighting and electric equipment selected are of energy efficient type, which achieved power density of lower than 5 W/m2 and 8 W/m2, respectively. Master switch was designed at the main entrance to provide a continent way to switch off all lighting before leaving. Booking.com also priorities the usage of environmentally friendly products for office fit-out and daily operation. A healthy and comfortable indoor environment is the top priority. Therefore, the selection of low VOC products is mandatory. Other than that, it was designed with plenty of indoor greeneries, maximum view out, low noise, comfortable indoor condition, glare-free environment, indoor CO2 level monitoring. The well-being of employee is also Booking.com’s priority. Break-out space, nursing room, first-aid-kit, hot-desking, fully equipped pantry and resources center is provided. Sustainable space design concept is one of the key elements in Booking.com. More than 50% of the office was designed as an open plan and more than 25% of the office space was designed with a flexible planning layout. Wireless internet was provided for the entire office to provide greater flexibility to work for its employees. Water efficiency is also part of the consideration. Therefore, the newly installed pantry tap is of water-saving type, with Singapore Water Efficient Labelling Scheme (WELS) 2 ticks labeled. Besides, the contractor had adopted sustainable construction method, minimization of construction waste and maximize recycling rate. Recycling is also to implement in the new office daily. Recycling bins are provided at the pantry. Apart from that, green product procurement policy will serve as a guide to reduce the purchase and usage of non-sustainable products. An office green champion will be appointed to ensure the green features are being maintained and create awareness among the employees.
